When to Choose Radiesse® vs. Juvéderm®: Our Dermatology Team Explains

Radiesse® vs. Juvéderm®

Not all fillers work the same way. If you’re deciding between Radiesse® and Juvéderm®, understanding the difference can help you choose the right treatment for your goals.

Dermal fillers are one of the fastest ways to restore lost volume and soften signs of aging, but choosing the right filler matters just as much as deciding to get treatment in the first place.

At Holladay Dermatology & Aesthetics, we offer several injectable filler options because different products are designed for different goals. Two of the most popular are Radiesse® and Juvéderm®.

Both can create beautiful, natural-looking results, but they work differently and are often best suited for different areas and concerns.

What is Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is a hyaluronic acid filler.

Hyaluronic acid is a substance your body naturally produces to help keep your skin hydrated and plump. When injected beneath your skin, Juvéderm attracts water and restores volume to areas that have thinned with age.

At Holladay Dermatology & Aesthetics, we usually use Juvéderm fillers to:

  • Add volume to the lips
  • Soften smile lines
  • Restore fullness in the cheeks
  • Smooth moderate facial wrinkles

One reason people like Juvéderm is that the results tend to feel soft and flexible, making it a popular option for areas that naturally move a lot, like the lips and mouth.

What is Radiesse?

Radiesse works differently.

Instead of hyaluronic acid, Radiesse contains tiny calcium-based microspheres suspended in a gel. The filler provides immediate volume, but it also stimulates your body’s natural collagen production over time, providing structure.

That collagen stimulation is one of the biggest reasons some people choose Radiesse over other fillers.

We usually use Radiesse for:

  • Smile lines
  • Marionette lines
  • Chin wrinkles
  • Pre-jowl folds
  • Hand rejuvenation

Because it provides more structural support, some people prefer Radiesse for deeper folds or areas needing a stronger lift and contour.

Which filler is better?

Neither one is universally “better.”

The better question is: Which one is better for your specific goals?

Juvéderm may be the better choice if:

  • You want softer, smoother volume
  • You’re treating your lips or delicate facial areas
  • You prefer a filler that can be dissolved if needed
  • You want subtle refinement and hydration

Radiesse may be the better choice if:

  • You want more structural support or lift
  • You have deeper wrinkles or folds
  • You’re interested in collagen stimulation
  • You want hand rejuvenation or contour improvement

In most cases, fillers aren’t interchangeable. They’re tools designed for different purposes.

Longevity is also different

Another important difference is how long results typically last.

Juvéderm products generally last anywhere from several months to over a year, depending on the specific formula and treatment area.

Radiesse often lasts a year or longer and may continue to improve your skin quality over time by stimulating collagen production.

That said, longevity varies from person to person based on metabolism, treatment area, and the amount used.

The injector matters as much as the product

Beautiful filler results aren’t just about choosing the “right” brand. They depend heavily on technique, knowledge of facial anatomy, and an understanding of how to create balance while maintaining natural movement and proportion.

At Holladay Dermatology & Aesthetics, we personalize your treatment because no two faces age exactly the same way. Sometimes, Juvéderm is the best fit. Sometimes, Radiesse is. Sometimes, a combination approach creates the most natural overall result.

We offer customized filler treatments designed around your facial structure, goals, and long-term aesthetic plan. Whether you’re considering Juvéderm, Radiesse, or another filler option, our team can help you understand which approach best fits your needs.
