Radiesse® vs. Juvéderm®: Which Filler Is Right for You? Insights from the Experts at Holladay Dermat

Confused about Radiesse vs. Juvéderm? Discover how these popular dermal fillers work and which one is right for your aesthetic goals at Holladay Dermatology & Aesthetics.

Dermatology & Aesthetics in Holladay, Utah, we help you navigate these choices. Dr. Robert Topham and our experienced team specialize in personalizing your care.

Two of the most popular dermal fillers we offer are Radiesse® and Juvéderm®. While both treatments restore youthfulness, they use completely different mechanisms to achieve your goals. Understanding these differences is the first step toward achieving your ideal results.

How do Radiesse and Juvéderm work differently?

Juvéderm is a hyaluronic acid gel. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance in your skin that binds water. This gives you an immediate plumping and hydrating effect.

Radiesse works by using calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres. These microspheres act as a scaffold. They stimulate your body to produce its own natural collagen over time. This means Radiesse provides both an instant lift and long-term firmness.

We choose the right product for you based on your skin's unique needs. We often use Juvéderm for soft, hydrated volume and Radiesse for structural support. We can also combine fillers with Botox® to smooth fine lines.

Which filler is better for cheeks and jawlines?

Your treatment area plays a major role in filler selection. Hyaluronic acid fillers are highly effective at restoring lost volume in the cheeks and midface. In a 2026 study of 203 adults in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal Open Forum, 92% of patients showed aesthetic improvement at six months.

For the lower face, we often recommend Radiesse because of its firm consistency. It mimics the support of bone to sculpt a sharp, defined jawline. In a 2024 study of 175 adults in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, this treatment achieved a 78.7% responder rate at 24 weeks.

We carefully evaluate your facial anatomy during your consultation. This ensures we place the correct product in the correct tissue plane.

What are the safety and reversal options?

Safety is our top priority at Holladay Dermatology & Aesthetics. One major difference between these fillers is how we can remove them if you want to change your look.

According to the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, hyaluronic acid fillers have a unique safety advantage. They can be rapidly dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase. Radiesse can’t be dissolved instantly and must break down naturally over a year or more.

Because of this, we often recommend hyaluronic acid fillers for first-time patients. It gives you the peace of mind that your treatment is fully reversible if you don’t like the results.

Choosing between Radiesse and Juvéderm doesn’t have to be a guessing game. Our team is here to design a personalized treatment plan that helps you look and feel your best. Ready to refresh your look? Schedule a consultation with us today.
